So much of this sounds like my approach to my current work. Not much planning, just going… this looks so good and it’s so powerful already!!!!!!

Thank you so much, Sarah. As you know, I blame you and your Graphic Memoir workshop for all of this, so coming from you that means a lot! I admire the work you're doing very much.

As for the not planning: when going through old journals a few years back, I saw that I'd written "NO THINKING ALLOWED!" many years ago (with regards to art making). But it took me some time to understand how to do that. I still have moments of doubt of course, but it doesn't worry me as much somehow.

Your vulnerability is permission to peel away the blind spots, rationalizations and sugar-coatings of our own stories. What happens to us does shape us in beautiful and powerful ways AND it hurts like fuck. Your art & writing is soul balm.

Vulnerability really is punk AF. Love this, love you. And now I'm trying to think of what constraint I can use in writing that is the equivalent of your bamboo paintbrush...

I want to say booze...😅...but NO. I for one cannot do any kind of art or writing under the influence. It's no good. Maybe the only answer is the "shitty first draft" option. Writing like no-one's watching. Which they aren't! Except you. And your brain. Which as we know... can get in the fucking way.
