I'm working on letting of perfectionism and trying to share my art even when, and maybe especially when it's imperfect and messy. What's really helped is seeing pieces like this - it always feels like a gift when an artist lets you into their messy, imperfect, chaotic process--the one that gets them to the finished work Thank you for being so open about yours! (and for the Mr. Rogers video rec - it is EXCELLENT)
Thank you for your comment! I do battle with perfectionism, too. It might not look that way with these sketchbook pages, haha, but those pages are really the first time I allowed myself to mess around and not be focused on producing a "good" (whatever that is) image that would demonstrate what a "good" artist I am. I still struggle to be FREE. And yes, that Mr. Rogers video... I love it.
Thanks you for sharing! I love your journal pages. They remind me of Frida Kahlo’s journals. I was cracking up at what you said about The Artist’s Way being embarrassing! I felt that way too! When I started my PhD, my friend and I learned that we’d both loved The Artist’s Way but understood that was to be our little secret—not something to share in a PhD program!
Hilarious 😄. I do think it was one of the first, if not *the* first book of its kind. The notions it espoused felt pretty weird, which probably wouldn't be the case nowadays. If you'd asked me at the time I likely would have said it'd made no difference. In retrospect, I think it has to have opened some doors.
You! I am stumped for a pithy remark, just completely blown away by your honesty and willingness to share the experience of getting from there to here. Your work is full of raw power.
I love seeing these sketchbook pages….they are raw and intense, starting with that first naked woman (your mother?) flying in what appears to be some kind of atmospheric phenomenon. The deluge of urine and blood in the birth scene and the anvil rain cloud - this is powerful stuff! Hoping you can harness this energy and creativity as you move forward with the memoir.

Yeah, it's definitely an ongoing process!

Oh man, Thanks Kristine 🫀
I love seeing the seeds that started it all!
Yay! Thanks Kelsey 😊
You are an inspiration! Thankyou for baring your soul to us. Looking forward to your interview with Jill Margo.
Thanks so much for saying so!

Urine! It wasn't meant to be urine, EW! 😂 I was not born in a river of urine, haha. At least, I hope not.
I, too, hope I can harness energy and creativity... wish me luck
I love your work. Powerful and inspiring, thank you!
Thank you so much. This was a much-needed comment to wake up to 🫀
