OK, I finally need to read WHAT IT IS! Others have recommended it but somehow I have never gotten around to it. That "Two Questions" page! "It me," as the kids say...
Ha ha—the test is kind of fun, right? Or is that just me. And yes, you must read What It Is. She's dealing with these ideas and concepts in a very non-intellectual way and it really gets under your skin. Or it does me, anyway. My copy is littered with sticky notes this time around because I want to go back and ruminate further on some of this stuff. It'd be really good for you to read in terms of your deep dive into artistic blocks.
Thanks very much, Jillian. There may be a correlation between facial recognition and obsessive portrait painting, haha. As for visual art in general, I doubt it. My husband is a visual artist as well, and I think he'd agree that he's definitely not a super-recognizer. From what I can glean it's an ability that has few applications apart from picking people out of line-ups and recognizing bit players across multiple TV shows.
Yes. I'm what is technically know as a super unrecognizer. This made me feel like a real asshole for many years. As a musician playing gigs, I just would not remember people's faces, even if I'd met them several times over the years at different showss. Coupled with my inability to remember names......it's tough being an asshole.
Well you're in good company... not only Oliver Sacks, but apparently Brad Pitt has face blindness! Not that you have full-blown face blindness. You seem to recognize me in the morning.
Always love reading your writing and so honoured to be painted by you!
You are sweet ❤❤❤

(PS — Got a 94% on the Cambridge test!)

Do you think there's a correlation between being a visual artist and facial recognition? It seems like they both rely on similar skills.
Also, these faces are remarkable! I'm in awe of your ability to convey so much character!
I'm so glad you finally recognize that you are, in fact, a "real" artist!

Thanks for another great issue of Feed the Monster. I love the portrait of your daughter! As you know, another project will emerge soon. Kathy
Thanks Kathy 🙂
