I had no intention of doing this, but a monster has been unleashed. My husband David and I are having an art sale in our back yard in beautiful Victoria BC, and we had to change the date to Saturday, August 5th. In my paranoia that some people might have our original date seared into their mind, I’ve been trying to get the word out about the date change so we don’t have disappointed looky-loos appearing at our back gate this coming weekend. I thought, oooh, I’d better send out an extra Feed the Monster about this.
Then I started to think, HEY. This could be an opportunity to plug the sale again, not just announce a date change. Then I thought, HEY. Why don’t I also take the opportunity to plug all my shit. I rarely do… I find it hard to be “salesy”. But leading up to the art sale I’ve been yakking myself up more, and lo and behold, I’ve sold some things. If nothing else, people are reminded that I exist and so does my artwork.
Revolutionary.

David P. Smith (or DPS as he’s otherwise known) will have original artwork and prints, plus LPs and CDs! He’s going to hang his paintings, prints and photos in our soon-to-be-rentable basement suite. A few of David’s impressionistic ink paintings:
Check out the website of this Renaissance man (I made it!), where you can sample his music and learn a bit more about him.
Secondly, I wanted to tell you about my
COLLAGE CLASS
It’s a 56-minute long download, and it costs a mere $35 CAD.
I speak somewhat awkwardly to the camera a little, but mostly I give a demonstration of how I put a collage together with detailed instructions.
I provide eleven pages of class notes, plus examples of collages by some artists I admire.
Here’s the fun promotional video I made for it, and yes I know you can’t hear what I’m saying! Music by David P. Smith and Marek Tyler
What you probably really need to know is that people like the class! Renée Layberry, a local editor who purchased it, recently told me it was “elevated” compared to others she’s seen. How I like that word! And here are a few other positive reviews:
It was very educational and also I loved your punk sensibility! Thank you! —Sarah Leavitt
I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your collage class. It was fun and instructive and inspiring. It gave me all sorts of ideas. I particularly love the class notes which give me something I can refer back to —Sheila Norgate
The class was terrific—very practical and hands on. The examples of collage work were varied, interesting, and inspiring —Susan Olding

AND OF COURSE
…there’s my upcoming Hardcore Journaling workshop—to be announced!
